A Time for Generosi-Tea

Updated: Apr 22, 2021

Generosity.

This teapot can hold a mere 6 ounces of liquid and so of course it is a conversation piece. People have often said "What's that for? It can't hold more than one cup of tea!" It's silly, I know, but this has prompted a question in my mind.

"Would
you
still give
even if
it
meant
you
would
lack?"

Never have I done so. But I will say, there may be no greater act of trust than to give all that you have and trust that you too will be taken care of.

In reading Mark 12:41-44 The Parable of the Widow highlights the reality that giving is not about quantity but rather about heart. Jesus sees many rich people throwing in large amounts of money in the temple treasury but when a poor widow comes and puts in a few small copper coins Jesus says;

"Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything- all she had to live on." -Mark 12:43-44 (NIV)

Early on we learn sharing by taking turns or splitting something. While this type of sharing feels good, I have to wonder how that "poor" widow felt giving everything.
